Here at the dive shop we pride ourselves on being at the forefront of diver training and thus offer a full range of Technical Courses including Rebreathers.
What is a Rebreather?
For those of you not familiar with rebreathers, a rebreather is a device that recycles the exhaled gas, they come in 3 flavours and have sub catagories within each group. for example:
Oxygen rebreathers (o2)
Primarily used by the military and shallow research divers, they are not widely used in recreational diving due to the shallow depth restrictions imposed due to the maximum permissible Partial Pressure of oxygen.
Semi-Closed Rebreathers (SCR)
These are more commonly used by recreational divers and come in two versions; Active gas addition and Passive gas addition, passive addition has a place with deep exploratory diving and the active addition has been utilised in various recreation rebreathers.
Closed Circuit Rebreathers (CCR)
Again this type of rebreather comes in various versions but basically they are either electronically controlled or manual controlled. these rebreathers come with the most advantages.
All Rebreathers come with a few common features; they have a way of capturing your exhaled gas, a method of cleaning the unwanted Carbon Dioxide out of the gas and a system for replacing the metabolised Oxygen.

Courses can be provided on 2 types of SCR, the Dräger Dolphin and the Dräger Ray. Training can be provided by both technical and PADI training agencies.
